To commemorate Professor Asakura Naomi – master educator of Fundamental Japanese Design and Visiting Professor at Kun-Shan University from 2001-2003 – for his achievements and contributions for Taiwanese education of basic design, Kun- Shan University has established “Asia-Pacific Award in Memorial of Professor Asakura Naomi Contest” since 2004. Through the contest, we seek to both implement and elevate the level of competency for fundamental design whilst giving an opportunity for aspiring talent well-versed in fundamental design. In its 12th anniversary in 2015, we hope to more effectively advance and promote the spirit of fundamental design. That is why from 2014, we extended the contest to the Asia-Pacific area so as to spread the message to contemporaries of design in Asia-Pacific to assist them in better understanding the crucial role of fundamentals in the field of design.
